Main's new on-roof solar package gives installers the opportunity to offer their customers a competitive simple to install solar hot water system that will cut their fuel bills and reduce their carbon footprint by using the renewable energy available from the sun.
Like all Main products, Main Solar is only available from independent merchants. The package is split into first and second fix kits for convenience. This means the installer can fit the panels and associated pipework and then return to the merchant for the second fix kit, which includes the solar controller, hydraulic pump station, solar fluid and solar expansion vessel. And they don't have to find the space to store the whole package at once.
The solar panels are manufactured in-house for Main. The kit comprises one, two or three portrait orientated panels, with on-roof mounting rail and brackets for slate or tiled roofs. The panels have easy push-fit fittings to make installation simple, meaning the installer only has to take a few tools onto the roof.
For maximum solar gain, the panels are ideally fitted on a south-facing roof, away from obstacles, such as trees, that are likely to cast shadows over them. However, when a roof doesn't face south, a special East West Array kit is available, to make the most of the sun throughout the day.
To reduce installation and commissioning times, the pump and solar controller have been pre-wired into the pump station, which also has an integral mounting bracket for easy, accurate fixing, an adjustable flow meter has been included and an integral air separator has been added. The solar controller has a multifunctional LCD display and a battery back-up pack that stores controller settings, to prevent unnecessary reprogramming.
The package is compatible with the Main Solar Thermal unvented hot water cylinder range. Available in capacities of 210, 250 and 300 litres, and both direct and indirect models, the cylinders have a purpose designed solar heating coil at the base of the cylinder, ensuring maximum heat input and efficiency from available solar energy.
Main Solar panels are Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certified. When MCS products are installed by an MCS registered installer, the householder could be eligible for available grants.
